OHEP helps low-income Marylanders pay their heating bills, minimize
heating crises, and makes energy costs more affordable. Programs
provided through OHEP promote energy conservation, customer financial
responsibility and energy independence.
SMTCACC manages the following
in
Calvert, Charles
& St.
Mary's Counties:
The
MARYLAND ENERGY ASSISTANCE (MEAP) provides assistance with home heating
bills. Limited assistance is available to replace broken or
inefficient refrigerators and furnaces.

The
UTILITY SERVICE PROTECTION (USPP) protects low-income families from
utility cut-offs and allows MEAP eligible families to enter into a
year-round even payment program with their utility company. The
payment plan is based on the estimated cost of the customer's average
utility usage minus the MEAP benefit.

The
ELECTRIC UNIVERSAL SERVICE (EUSP) is a year-round state program, started July 1,
2000 to assist low income electric customers with their electric
bills. Help may be received in three ways:
1. To
pay current electric bills;
2. To
pay past due electric bills that
were owed before July 1, 2000; and
3. To
help to address energy efficiency
measures.
EUSP and MEAP may
be applied for with a single application. Eligible customers may
receive help from all three.
